The Redrick Leijon Nicholas Williams Scholarship is for an African American/Black male, raised by a single mother, graduating high school student, and living in Los Angeles County who will either be attending an accredited 4-year college/university, 2-year community/junior college, or vocational/trade school. The applicant must be from a single-parent home, raised by their mother.
Applicant must have a cumulative equivalent GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4-point scale and provide three letters of recommendation, on official letterhead, typed, dated, signed, and sealed. Letters of recommendation should be from teachers, guidance counselors, principals, employers, and/or community service representatives.
The Redrick Leijon Nicholas Williams Scholarship was established in memory of Redrick Leijon Nicholas Williams, honoring his service to the community, youth, and education.
Redrick was born and raised in Greater Los Angeles and graduated from George Washington Preparatory High School. He was reared by a single mother who instilled the importance of servitude and education. At age 14, he began volunteering in Los Angeles County and dedicated his life to serving others for over 30 years.
Through his service professionally and as an active community member, Redrick touched many lives. He was passionate as a school staff professional for the Victor Valley Union High School District, where he was able to be an active role model for black students. Redrick was also an active community leader in Lynwood while serving as Head Deacon of Greater Emmanuel Temple. From offering counseling, facilitating community events to overseeing recreational activities, such as nightly basketball at G.E.T., Redrick made an impact bridging the gap between the streets and church.
As an entrepreneur, Redrick was committed to creating opportunities for success, conversation, and uplifting inner-city African American male youth as a licensed Bail Bondsman. He majored in Electronics and Telecommunications at Victor Valley College and believed in having a trade or higher learning as a way to empower yourself to grow. He instilled these same values into his son and the youth he mentored. As the eldest sibling of 5, Redrick understood the hardships of single- motherhood and helped raise his younger siblings. This experience shaped him as a mentor to be selfless and giving to others. The Redrick Leijon Nicholas Williams Scholarship is a tribute to Redrick’s generosity of spirit and devotion to the LA community, the place he so proudly called “Home”. Redrick’s dedication to family, friends, church, and the Greater Los Angeles community is never to be broken, infringed, or dishonored.
