The purpose of the Marine Option NROTC program is to educate and train highly qualified young men and women for careers as commissioned officers in the United States Marine Corps.
The Marine Option NROTC units are located at selected colleges and universities throughout the United States. Upon graduation and successful completion of required courses and training, a midshipman is appointed a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. It is a way for highly qualified young men and women to “try-on” the military lifestyle, pay for their undergraduate education, and earn a commission as an officer upon graduation from college. The following are the minimum academic requirements for application:
- 1000 on the SAT (math plus critical reading), OR
- 22 on the ACT (composite), OR
- 74 on the ASVAB.
Additionally the applicants must score at least 200 points on the Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test (consisting of a timed three mile run, crunches, and pull-ups/push-ups).
