Scholarship Description

The TANF College Scholarship Program is a program that provides a financial award to Illinois residents, enrolled full-time (12 hours). The Scholarship funds are used for the student’s educational financial needs for things such as tuition, books, and campus housing.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Applicants: Public and private not-for-profit community-based organizations, local government units, and educational institutions
  • Live and attend school in Illinois
  • Must be 19 years of age or older
  • Must be in good standing with the Secretary of State
  • Identify as low-income and receive TANF and/or SNAP benefits
  • Have a minor child

Application Process

  1. Eligible organizations and institutions must submit applications to the Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Family and Community Services.
  2. Successful proposals should outline the program plan and budget for the grant period.
  3. Applicants must pre-qualify through the Grant Accountability and Transparency Act (GATA) Grantee Portal.
  4. Pre-qualification includes verifications by Dun and Bradstreet, checks for Debarred and Suspended status, and assessment of financial and administrative risk.

In order to be considered for the scholarship. First and foremost an applicant MUST have a child under the age of 18 and receive TANF; or receive SNAP benefits and have a child under the age of 18. If the requirements are not met, then the applicant is NOT eligible for the scholarship.
