Since 1988, the Bluegrass Indo-American Civic Society (BIACS) has awarded more than $450,000 in scholarships to college-bound, graduating high school seniors from Commonwealth of Kentucky. The BIACS Scholarship program started with a single $1000 scholarship in 1988 and has grown manifold since then with 29 scholarships awarded last year.
Scholarship Details
- Merit and need based scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000
- $1,000 and $1,500 awards available through the Toyota Scholarship program
- Community college applicants may qualify for awards up to $3,000
- Four to six students selected annually as Toyota Scholars
- Scholarships awarded at the BIACS Annual Scholarship Presentation Banquet in Lexington, Kentucky
- Awardees must attend the banquet in person to receive the scholarship
Eligibility Criteria
- Graduating high school senior from the Commonwealth of Kentucky
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 for merit-based consideration
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 for merit or need-based consideration
- Students applying for Toyota Scholarships must declare engineering as their college major
- Demonstrated leadership, academic achievement, or financial need
- Proof of income may be required for need-based awards
Application Process
- Complete the scholarship application electronically through the BIACS scholarship portal
- Submit a resume limited to two pages
- Write a personal essay of no more than 250 words describing financial need, goals, or passion
- Provide at least one letter of recommendation from a faculty member
- Include academic records, awards, leadership activities, and test scores if applicable
- Application deadline is February 28th
Scholarships will be awarded at the Bluegrass Indo-American Civic Society Annual Scholarship presentation. Banquet will be held in Lexington, KY and the date will be announced soon. Awardees must attend the event in-person to accept the award at the presentation; failure to do so will result in the cancellation of the award.
