Scholarship Description

Investing in people living with HIV is crucial and a primary mission of Capital City AIDS Fund (CCAF). The Helen Veress-Mitchell Scholarship program was created in 2002 and since has accrued donations and awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships. These scholarships help people living with HIV attend college or technical school. Most are pursuing careers in the health care field in hopes of helping other people living with HIV. The Helen Veress-Mitchell Scholarship fund is designed to help HIV-positive individuals attend college and pursue a two-year, four-year or graduate degree. Students who have ties to the Sacramento area are invited to apply.

CCAF aspires to award scholarships to all qualified applicants, and we encourage all qualified students to apply. However, priority will be given to those students who: are enrolled in a minimum of nine hours of class work; are attending traditional institutions of higher learning; and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Apart from the application, applicants must also submit: transcripts from the last two academic years; proof of enrollment; two recommendation letters (from a medical provider and/or educator); and documentation of their HIV+ status. Inquire with CCAF for specific award amounts.
