The Orel and Marie Winjum Memorial Scholarship, offered by the Sons of Norway Foundation, is designed to help American students of Norwegian and/or German heritage with college tuition costs. This scholarship honors Orel and Marie Winjum’s legacy of valuing education and its ability to enrich the lives of individuals and their communities. The award amount is up to $2,000 and supports undergraduate students pursuing any field of study in the United States.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens
- Must be 17 years or older
- Enrolled or planning to enroll in an undergraduate program
- Minimum GPA requirement of 2.5
- Must demonstrate connection to Norwegian heritage
Application Process
Visit the Sons of Norway Foundation website and access the online application portal and Prepare and upload the following materials:
- A short autobiography (150 words or fewer)
- An essay of 500 words or fewer
- Latest academic transcripts (unofficial, with “official” versions potentially required later)
- Details of financial need, including how much you can contribute to your education
- Two letters of recommendation
Final selection of the scholarship winners will be made by a scholarship committee appointed by the
Sons of Norway Foundation. Scoring is dependent on the use of complete sentences, proper grammar,
inclusion of information outlined in the essay requirements listed above and financial need.
