Scholarship Description

The Better Together STEM Scholarship Program supports students pursuing their first undergraduate degree in high-demand science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. Funded by PG&E, the program is designed to expand access to higher education while strengthening the future STEM workforce. Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, leadership, life circumstances, and demonstrated financial need.

Scholarship Details

  • Total authorized award distribution of $350,000
  • Twenty $10,000 scholarships awarded
  • Twenty $5,000 scholarships awarded
  • Twenty $2,500 scholarships awarded
  • Awards are for undergraduate study only
  • Scholarships are not renewable but recipients may reapply annually for up to five years
  • Payments are issued in August through Scholarship America
  • Applicants notified of decisions in mid-May

Eligibility Criteria

  • High school senior or graduate, GED recipient or current undergraduate student
  • Non-traditional student or veteran returning to school
  • Resident of PG&E’s service territory or dependent of an eligible resident
  • Planning full-time undergraduate enrollment for the coming academic year
  • Attending a four-year college or university in California or a U.S. HBCU
  • Pursuing a first undergraduate degree
  • Major in an eligible STEM field

Application Process

  1. Create an online application account using a personal email address
  2. Complete the scholarship application form
  3. Submit academic, leadership, work, and community involvement information
  4. Provide a statement of educational and career goals
  5. Request and submit an online recommendation
  6. Submit all materials by the deadline

Nontraditional students and veterans who are returning to school or planning to pursue an undergraduate degree for the first time are eligible and encouraged to apply. Last year, PG&E gave out nearly 150 scholarships. These STEM-focused or Employee Resource Group and Engineering Network Group-sponsored scholarships ranged from $1,000 to $10,000.
