The Association on American Indian Affairs has been providing Native American student scholarships since 1947 and provides scholarships to undergraduate and graduate Native American students who are citizens/ members of their Tribal Nation – whether or not their Nation is recognized by the federal government.
Scholarship Details
- Available to undergraduate and graduate Native American students
- Supports full-time enrollment at accredited institutions for Associate’s degrees or higher
- Scholarships do not fund certificate programs or seminaries
- Applicants must demonstrate connection to their Native Nation and Native Country through required essays
- Funding available to students from both federally recognized and non-federally recognized Nations
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be enrolled with a federally or non-federally recognized Native Nation from the continental U.S. or Alaska
- Must provide documentation of Tribal enrollment (e.g., Tribal ID or official letter from the Nation)
- Must be enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college or university
- Must be seeking an Associate’s degree or higher
- Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Must submit a current class schedule and academic transcript
- Must complete essays as outlined in the application showing connection to Native heritage
Application Process
- Gather documentation confirming enrollment in your Native Nation
- Prepare a current transcript and class schedule
- Write required essays demonstrating your connection to your Native Nation and Native Country
- Complete the scholarship application on the Association on American Indian Affairs website
- Submit all materials by the deadline provided on the application portal
