Each fall, the APSA Diversity Fellowship Program (DFP) awards between 12 and 14 funded fellowships in the amount of $5,000 over two years to students applying to doctoral programs in political science.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be members of an underrepresented group in the discipline of political science
- Must be applying to or currently enrolled in a PhD program in political science
- Must demonstrate academic excellence and a strong commitment to the study of political science
- Applicants for the Fall DFP should be prospective doctoral students; applicants for the Spring DFP should be in the early, pre-dissertation phase of their doctoral studies
- Must intend to pursue an academic career in teaching and research
Application Process
- Access the online application through the APSA website during the open application window
- Prepare and submit all required materials, including transcripts, a personal statement, and letters of recommendation
- Ensure that the personal statement outlines academic goals, research interests, and commitment to diversity in political science
- Submit the completed application by the deadline
- Await notification of selection and participate in APSA’s mentorship and professional development opportunities if chosen
Some political science departments offer application fee waivers to students enrolled in APSA Diversity and Inclusion Programs. Students should inquire with the graduate program they are applying to about the possibility of an application fee waiver.
