Scholarship Description

The American Cancer Society Postdoctoral Fellowships (PF) support new investigators in research training programs to position them for independent careers in cancer research. As part of their evaluation, peer reviewers consider how well the fellowship will broaden the applicant’s research training and experience.

Scholarship Details

  • Postdoctoral fellowship supporting cancer research training
  • Awards available for up to three years
  • Annual stipends of $66,000, $68,000, and $70,000
  • Final-year supplemental $1,500 for approved scientific meetings or symposium attendance

Eligibility Criteria

  • Employed at a United States academic institution or eligible nonprofit organization
  • United States citizen or non-citizen with appropriate visa or lawful immigration status
  • Currently in a postdoctoral position
  • Not holding a faculty, instructor, research scientist, or staff scientist appointment
  • Terminal doctoral degree completed within the past four years

Application Process

  3. Prepare a research training proposal demonstrating professional development goals
  4. Submit the fellowship application by the published deadline
  5. Contact the eligibility office at least six weeks before the deadline for extenuating circumstance inquiries

Eligibility is calculated based on the month and year you received your terminal doctoral degree and the month and year of the application deadline. Depending on availability of special endowment funds, the American Cancer Society (ACS) annually selects one or more of the top-ranked fellowships to be supplemented above the standard stipend.
