The Dallas Center for Architecture Foundation McDermott Traveling Fellowship provides financial support for architecture students and recent architecture graduates to pursue traveling studies and research related to the built environment. Fellows are expected to use their travels to develop knowledge that can benefit the architectural community and Dallas-area communities.
Scholarship Details
- Individual awards of $5,000
- The fellowship must be used during the year it is awarded; unused funds will be forfeited
- Half of the fellowship funds are disbursed upon receipt
- The remaining half is disbursed after the recipient submits a 1,200-word report, gives a public presentation of their research and travels, completes a 7-day Instagram takeover, and submits a final expense report
- Recipients must provide additional information, including a headshot and biographical information
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be in their third through sixth year of university studies during the upcoming academic year
- Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited architecture program, or be a professional who graduated from an accredited architecture program within the previous 10 years
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents
- Applicants must have been residents of Texas for five years
Application Process
- Confirm that you meet the eligibility requirements
- Prepare two letters of recommendation from a recent professor or teacher, employer, advisor or mentor
- Prepare your resume and transcript
- Write an essay describing how and why your proposed study can benefit the architectural community, including your objectives, methodology, proposed timeline, itinerary and other relevant details
- Prepare a concise portfolio or examples of visual work
- Complete and submit the fellowship application along with all required supporting materials
- If selected, use the fellowship funds during the year they are awarded and complete the required report, public presentation, Instagram takeover, and final expense report to receive the remaining funds
