Scholarship Description

The Montine McDaniel Freeman Scholarship aims to promote the understanding, development, and use of underutilized native plants. Established to foster research, documentation, and teaching skills in horticulture, this scholarship supports students exploring innovative ways to incorporate native plants into managed landscapes.

Scholarship Details

  • Funds one or more scholarships annually at a minimum of $3,000
  • Supports study at accredited colleges, universities, or major botanic gardens or arboreta
  • Research and projects may include plant propagation, working with native plant collections, and managed landscape techniques
  • Selection conducted by a committee chaired by a Scholarship Vice Chair

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents
  • Currently and actively enrolled in a U.S.-based institution
  • Eligible applicants include college undergraduates, graduate students, advanced degree candidates, and non-degree seeking students above high school level
  • Scholarship is not available to international applicants
