Scholarship Description

The Ohio EPA Scholarship is a merit-based, nonrenewable scholarship for undergraduate students pursuing careers in environmental science or environmental engineering. Awards are available to students entering their junior or senior year at eligible Ohio colleges and universities.

Scholarship Details

  • Up to $5,000 available for students entering their junior or senior year in four-year and five-year programs
  • Up to $2,500 available for students in two-year degree programs
  • Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, personal protective equipment, tools, instruments, and field equipment

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be an undergraduate student enrolled at an Ohio public or private college, university, technical college or community college
  • Must be entering the junior or senior year of a four-year or five-year program, with at least one full year remaining, or enrolled in an eligible two-year degree program
  • Must have an overall GPA of at least 3.0
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to a career in environmental science or environmental engineering

Application Process

  1. Obtain a current full transcript showing all courses taken to date and circle the GPA
  2. Prepare a maximum two-page vita, biosketch, or resume containing complete contact information, education, employment and internships, honors and awards, professional memberships, publications with full citations, presentations given, professional meetings attended, and community service, in that order
  3. Write an essay describing your reasons for choosing a career in environmental science or environmental engineering and how the scholarship will help you
  4. Write an essay detailing any original research, scholarship, employment, internships, or other unique contributions to environmental science or environmental engineering
  5. Write an essay describing your extracurricular activities and participation in organizations that demonstrate leadership, interpersonal skills, and social responsibility
  6. Format each essay as no more than one two-sided page, double-spaced, using 12-point font and 1-inch margins
  7. Obtain two letters of recommendation from education or environmental professionals, with at least one letter coming from a faculty member at your institution
  8. Submit the completed application materials according to the scholarship's application instructions
