Scholarship Description

The National Institute for Labor Relations Research (NILRR) is a research facility that dedicates itself to providing people with information and resources regarding labor relation policies. We believe that all people have the right to knowledge. More importantly, all people should have the right to choose whether or not they work for a union. Our aim is to provide the general public, scholars, and students with the information and resources necessary in order to expose the inequities of compulsory unionism.

The William B. Ruggles Right to Work Scholarship honors the esteemed Texas journalist who coined the phrase "Right to Work" and contributed greatly to the movement's advancement. A $2,000 scholarship is awarded annually to the student who exemplifies the dedication to principle and high journalistic standards of the late Mr. Ruggles. Eligible applicants must: be pursuing a degree in journalism or related studies, and demonstrate an understanding of the principles of voluntary unionism and the economic and social problems of compulsory unionism by submitting an essay of approximately 500 words. Online applications must be received from September 1 through January 31.
