Scholarship Description

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is proud to honor seven inspiring Arab American storytellers who are challenging dominant narratives and uplifting their communities through journalism, film, and media.

Scholarship Details

  • Award amount is $5,000
  • Recognizes Arab-American students pursuing media-related fields
  • Supports majors in Journalism, Television, Radio, and Film
  • Scholarship is administered through ADC’s Research Institute

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a U.S. citizen of Arab heritage
  • Must be a College Junior, Senior, or Graduate student
  • Must be majoring in Journalism, Television, Radio, Film, or a related mass communications field
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.5

Application Process

  1. Prepare a one-page statement explaining your goals and how Dr. Jack Shaheen’s work has influenced you
  2. Include confirmation of your U.S. citizenship and Arab heritage
  3. Provide two signed letters of recommendation from Mass Communications professors
  4. Submit print copies or email links of your relevant media or communications work
  5. Confirm your academic standing for the 2026–2027 year and include an acceptance letter if attending a different university
  6. Request and include official academic transcripts showing at least a 3.5 GPA

The Dr. Jack G. Shaheen Mass Communications Scholarship recognizes Arab American undergraduate and graduate students who excel in media studies, including journalism, television, film, and radio. The scholarship is offered in honor of Dr. Jack Shaheen (1935-2017), an author, lecturer, and media critic who wrote the award-winning book and documentary, Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People.
