Each year, the Mary P. Oenslager Scholastic Achievement awards are presented to Learning Ally members who are completing undergraduate or graduate degrees, and who are blind or visually impaired, in recognition of academic achievement, outstanding leadership, and service to others.
Scholarship Details
- Awards of $6,000 for top winners and $3,000 for special honors winners
- Open to undergraduate or graduate students who are Learning Ally members
- Honors academic achievement, leadership, and service
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a member of Learning Ally
- Currently completing an undergraduate or graduate degree
- Blind or visually impaired
Application Process
- Complete and sign the personal application form.
- Submit a personal narrative in writing and a video describing your blindness or visual impairment and how Learning Ally has impacted your life.
- Include details of milestones, honors, awards, and achievements, such as educational honors and special accomplishments.
- Provide a description of extracurricular, community activities, and leadership roles with time frames and level of involvement.
- Submit one letter of recommendation from a non-relative who has positively influenced your academic success, accompanied by a referral form signed by the author.
- Provide an official transcript of your grades if selected as a finalist.
- Ensure your application is complete and submitted by December 31.
All scholarship awardees must be capable and willing to publicly share their story and represent Learning Ally as a spokesperson and advocate at various local, virtual and national events. Costs associated with these events will be covered by Learning Ally.
