Scholarship Description

The Maryland Senatorial Scholarship is offered to Maryland residents who plan to pursue a postsecondary credential full-time (12+ credits undergraduate or 9+ credits graduate per semester) or part-time (6-11 credits undergraduate or 6-8 credits graduate per semester) at a two-year or four-year Maryland college, university or private career school.

Scholarship Details

  • Available to Maryland residents attending eligible Maryland colleges, universities, or private career schools
  • Offered through the student’s local Maryland state senator
  • Open to both full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate students
  • Can be used for degree programs, certificate programs, and licensure courses at community colleges
  • Minimum award amount for the coming year is $400
  • Maximum award amount for the coming year is $14,086

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a Maryland resident
  • Must plan to attend an eligible Maryland postsecondary institution
  • Current high school seniors and prospective undergraduate and graduate students may apply
  • Part-time and full-time students are eligible
  • Undocumented students eligible for in-state tuition may apply
  • Students enrolled in eligible certificate or licensure programs at community colleges may qualify for reimbursement of educational expenses
  • All in-state majors are eligible

Application Process

  1. Contact your local Maryland state senator to obtain application instructions and deadlines
  2. Complete the FAFSA by the deadline established by your state senator
  3. If ineligible for federal aid but eligible for in-state tuition, complete the Maryland Higher Education Commission One-App instead of the FAFSA
  4. Gather any required supporting documentation requested by the senator’s office
  5. Submit all required materials directly to the senator’s office before the application deadline
  6. Monitor communications from the senator’s office or the Office of Student Financial Assistance regarding award decisions

Out-of-State Exceptions: Award recipients may use this scholarship at an out-of-state school if their major is not available at any Maryland institution and if their legislator agrees. In order to verify your out-of-state major as unique, you must complete and submit the online application by the established deadline.
