Each year, the Arkansas SHRM State Council awards a $1000 scholarship to a college student who has demonstrated scholastic achievement and a commitment to a career in human resources.

Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a resident of Arkansas or currently attend an accredited Arkansas college or university
- Undergraduate applicants must have junior standing or higher at the beginning of the fall semester
- Undergraduate applicants must major, emphasize, or concentrate in Human Resources
- If a Human Resources major is unavailable, applicants may qualify through a related business, management, or administration major with at least six credit hours of qualifying HR coursework
- Introductory human resources courses do not count toward the required six credit hours
- Undergraduate applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA in their major on a 4.0 scale
- Graduate applicants must be enrolled in an acceptable degree program as determined by the Scholarship Selection Committee
- Graduate applicants must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Applicants must be members of an SHRM Student Chapter or SHRM National during the current academic year
- Students without access to an SHRM student chapter must be willing to become SHRM student at-large members if selected
Application Process
- Review the scholarship eligibility requirements and academic qualifications
- Confirm SHRM student membership status or apply for SHRM membership if needed
- Complete the scholarship application and provide all requested personal and academic information
- Submit transcripts and documentation verifying GPA, coursework, and enrollment status
- Provide any additional materials requested by the Scholarship Selection Committee
- Submit the completed application before the scholarship deadline
- Monitor communications regarding scholarship review and award announcements
This award is named in honor of J.C. Cote, who was a dedicated member of the ARSHRM State Council and the Western Arkansas SHRM chapter (WAHRA). J.C. served as Chapter President of WAHRA for two years. He also represented the ARSHRM State Council as 2001 State HR Conference Chair and as West District Director. J.C. put his “heart and soul” into these roles. Through this scholarship award, the Arkansas SHRM State Council seeks to identify and reward students who characterize J.C.’s commitment to the human resources profession.
