The National GEM Consortium awards fellowships with coverage of up to full-tuition to master's and doctoral students in engineering and science fields. GEM Fellows go on to enrich the industry workforce with connections to GEM Member Universities and GEM Employers.
Scholarship Details
- Several types of scholarships are available; eligibility varies
- Merit-based; test-optional, but recommended to take the GRE
- Not applicable to online programs
- Requires participation in a GEM sponsored internship over the summer
- Typically, 5 high school awards, 5 undergraduate scholarships, and 1 graduate scholarship are awarded
Eligibility Criteria
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Engineering or computer science major
- Incoming or continuing graduate student
- Minimum GPA of 2.8 (or 3.0 for doctoral fellowships)
- Commitment to apply to at least 3 GEM Member Universities
- Commitment to intern with a GEM employer for up to 2 summers
Application Process
- Register online to apply through eGEM
- Fill out the application form, including the following supplemental documents:
- Statement of purpose
- 3 letters of recommendation
- Unofficial academic transcripts
- Resume
- Submit the application form by the deadline
- Apply to at least 3 GEM Member Universities
- Submit all application materials in advance of the deadline
- Enroll in your graduate program and accept GEM's terms to confirm funding
- Participate in GEM's required internships and maintain academic progress to continue to receive funds
- Complete your graduate program following GEM's timeline
The minimum GEM stipend is $8,000 per year. Initial GEM Fellowship applications are due the second Friday in November each year.
