Scholarship Description

NGC is proud of its college scholarship program which offers financial aid to students majoring in fields of study related to horticulture and the environment. For additional scholarship opportunities, visit your state garden club federation website.

Scholarship Details

  • Up to 45 scholarships awarded annually
  • Each scholarship is valued at up to $4,000
  • Open to juniors, seniors, and graduate students (sophomores may apply for junior year funding)
  • One-year scholarships; funds sent to the student’s college Financial Aid Office
  • Funds may be used for tuition, books, housing, and other academic expenses

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident
  • Must attend an accredited U.S. college/university full-time
  • Minimum GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale
  • Must be majoring in a field related to gardening, horticulture, environmental issues, or similar
  • Must not be an international or foreign exchange student
  • Doctoral students only eligible under special conditions
  • Must be planning a career in an eligible field

Application Process

  1. Download and complete the NGC Scholarship Application form
  2. Complete the NGC Financial Aid Form
  3. Obtain and submit complete academic transcripts
  4. Write a one-page letter describing your career goals and interest in the eligible fields
  5. Submit a list of extracurricular activities, honors, and awards from the past three years
  6. Secure two one-page letters of recommendation
  7. Submit all required documents by February 1 to be considered at the state level
  8. State winners advance to national judging; final decisions announced at the NGC Convention

Applications are evaluated and winners chosen by the NGC Scholarship Committee, which consists of the NGC Scholarship Chairman and the eight Regional Directors of NGC. Final judging takes place prior to the annual NGC Convention.
