Applicants of the Optum Infusion Pharmacy / Hemophilia of North Carolina Education Scholarship must be persons affected by a bleeding disorder including anyone who has been diagnosed with a bleeding disorder; is a caregiver of a child or adult affected by a bleeding disorder or has a sibling or a parent in the same household affected by a bleeding disorder.
Scholarship Details
- Amount: $20,000 in total, distributed as awards ranging from $500 to $3,000
Eligibility Criteria
- Open to individuals affected by bleeding disorders, including those diagnosed, caregivers, and those with affected siblings or parents
- At least one scholarship awarded to an applicant pursuing education in a health-related field
Application Process
- Complete the simple two-page application form
- Write a brief essay (1-2 pages)
- Obtain letters of recommendation from two people
- Obtain a doctor's certification
- Obtain a current school transcript
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Tips for Preparing and Submitting Your Scholarship Application:
- A reference from someone unrelated to you may carry more weight than a family member's letter.
- A recent recommendation dated within the current academic year is preferable.
- Provide your reference with at least two weeks to prepare a letter.
- While your reference may give you a letter to submit with your application, they may prefer to send it directly to BDFNC by email or US Mail, with mailing instructions available on the application form.
- While two letters are required, you may submit more if desired.

The Bleeding Disorders Foundation of North Carolina (BDFNC) and Optum Infusion Pharmacy will never divulge the applicant’s name, address, financial or health-related information to any other organization, company or individual without their express permission. Scholarship winners may be asked (though not required) to submit a photograph and sign a release form for publicity purposes.
