The SmithGroup Design a Better Future Scholarship was created to advance SmithGroup’s mission of building more inclusive and equitable communities through design. This program provides both tuition assistance and professional development opportunities to students who are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion within the architecture, engineering, and design industries.
Scholarship Details
- Five scholarships awarded annually to students committed to advancing diversity in design
- Each recipient receives a one-time $6,000 tuition award
- Includes a paid summer internship at a SmithGroup office in the recipient’s discipline (internship is a program requirement)
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be current undergraduate (junior level or higher) or graduate students
- Must be enrolled in an accredited U.S. program in architecture, interior design, urban planning, landscape architecture, or engineering (civil/structural, mechanical, electrical, or fire protection)
- Must remain enrolled during the Fall 2026 semester, as funds are paid directly to the institution
- Must be available for a paid SmithGroup internship during summer 2026
- Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Application Process
- Prepare a cover letter describing your involvement in organizations or activities that demonstrate your commitment to inclusion within your university, community, or the AEC industry
- Prepare and submit a current resume
- Provide a link to an online portfolio (required for architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design applicants)
- Complete the official SmithGroup Design a Better Future Scholarship application before December 8, 2025
- Ensure all required documents are included and submitted electronically
