Each year, to promote higher education in the STEM fields of computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, chemistry and management information systems through financial scholarship awards, AFCEA Washington, DC sponsors STEM scholarships for graduating high school seniors.
Scholarship Details
- Annual STEM scholarship program for students pursuing computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, chemistry, cybersecurity, MIS, and related fields
- Over $2.85 million awarded since 1989 to more than 450 students
- Supports students from high schools and community colleges within the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments area
- Special encouragement for students with military, veteran, or AFCEA DC family connections
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Must reside within the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments area
- Must be a high school senior
- Must be accepted to an accredited U.S. four-year college or university in a full-time STEM curriculum
- Eligible fields include computer science, engineering (all), mathematics, physics, chemistry, cybersecurity, management information systems, and C4I-related disciplines
- Students receiving full tuition scholarships are not eligible
Application Process
- Prepare your AFCEA member number, if applicable
- Compile a list of school activities, extracurricular involvement, and awards
- Include experience or work history and a list of anticipated college expenses
- Request two single-page letters of recommendation submitted online by your recommenders
- Request your guidance counselor to complete and submit the mandatory summary and statement online
- Complete and submit the online application with all required components before the deadline
In addition, AFCEA Washington, DC awards science teaching awards and supports McKinley Technical High School in its mission to become a nationally recognized STEM high school. All students who meet the criteria are encouraged to apply.
