The Afghan-American Community Organization (AACO) offers scholarship opportunities to Afghan-American undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate financial need, leadership, and a commitment to empowering the Afghan-American community. The program includes the Afghan-American Community Organization Scholarship and the Sophia and Sabrina Scholarship. Students may apply for both scholarships if they qualify, but they may submit only one application.

Eligibility Criteria
- Be Afghan-American by being born in Afghanistan, having one or both parents born in Afghanistan, or having a grandparent or great-grandparent born in Afghanistan
- Be enrolled in an educational institution in the United States
- Be a full-time student
- Demonstrate financial need
- Be willing to serve as a Scholarship Ambassador for the AACO Scholarship Program during the following academic year
- For the Sophia and Sabrina Scholarship, be an Afghan-American woman who demonstrates strong leadership and a commitment to making a difference in the Afghan community
Application Process
- Review the eligibility requirements for both scholarships to determine which opportunities you qualify for
- Complete the demographics and applicant information section with comprehensive information about your background, identity and community experiences
- Complete the essay questions by discussing your personal narrative, Afghan heritage, community involvement, academic and professional goals and the expected impact of the scholarship
- If applying for the AACO Scholarship or Sophia and Sabrina Scholarship, answer the additional questions addressing leadership and contributions to the Afghan-American community
- Provide detailed financial and supplemental education information, including loans, grants and other relevant financial information
- Upload all required supporting documents, including proof of enrollment, transcripts, a detailed resume and other relevant materials
- Provide additional financial need documentation, such as tax returns, student account statements or FAFSA award letters, if available
- Submit the completed application by the deadline at 11:59 PM PT
The AACO scholarships provide an opportunity for Afghan-American students to receive financial support while continuing their education and contributing to their community. Eligible students are encouraged to apply for this opportunity.
