Scholarship Description

The peermusic Latin Award is an annual competition open to student songwriters and composers of Latin music. One of the few distinctions of its kind, the award was established in 2003 through the generosity and vision of peermusic CEO, Ralph Peer II. For two decades, the program has nurtured promising musicians who have gone on to distinguish themselves in the fields of television, film, recorded music, and concert performance.

Scholarship Details

  • Award amount: $5,000
  • Awarded annually for the best original song or instrumental composition in any Latin genre
  • Open to emerging musicians and composers
  • Administered by the BMI Foundation
  • Program has supported promising musicians for over two decades

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be between the ages of 17 and 24 as of June 30th
  • Must be based in the United States or Puerto Rico
  • Must not have had any musical work commercially recorded or distributed

Application Process

  1. Prepare your original song or instrumental composition in a Latin genre
  2. Ensure that the work is unpublished and not under contract with a major music publisher or record label
  3. May only submit one application per BMI Foundation awards program
  4. May not submit the same musical work to more than one BMI Foundation awards program
  5. Submit an online application through the BMI Foundation portal
  6. If the work is co-written, list all co-writers on the application
  7. Submit supporting materials as required by the application portal
  8. Ensure the application is submitted before the deadline
