The Herb it Forward Scholarship's mission is to support the education of young leaders in the Philadelphia area through scholarships and community with a primary focus on students who demonstrate a commitment to helping others and a passion for giving back.
Scholarship Details
- First Place awards for 10 students renewable over four years totaling up to $9,500
- Second Place awards for 10 students renewable over four years totaling up to $5,500
- Third Place awards for 10 students renewable over four years totaling up to $4,000
- Recipients may participate in leadership camps, mentorship, dinners, and speaking events
Eligibility Criteria
- Between 17 and 21 years of age
- Resident of Philadelphia or the Greater Philadelphia Area including eligible counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey
- Graduating high school senior in 2026 or recent graduate, GED recipient, or homeschool completer
- High school senior or first-year student at a college, vocational, or technical school
- Not currently a college sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student
- Demonstrated strong financial need based on household income guidelines
- Clear history of community involvement and intent to pursue a service-oriented career
- Previous Herb it Forward Scholarship recipients are not eligible
Application Process
- Complete and submit the Herb it Forward Scholarship application form
- Upload a transcript, GED, or state certification
- Clearly describe past community service and future plans to give back
- Submit the application in English between November 25th and March 2nd
- Participate in a virtual interview if selected as a finalist
- Provide proof of family income if requested
The Herb it Forward Scholarship is inspired by Herb Lotman, a self-made businessman whose life was dedicated to helping others and giving back. The Herb it Forward Scholarship was created in his memory to educate those future leaders who will continue to pay it forward.
