A scholarship of $1,800 will be awarded from the Indianapolis Bureau of Jewish Education Endowment Fund to a graduating high school senior who demonstrates a commitment to lifelong Jewish learning, formal and informal, as a leader and participant. This student is actively engaged in post B’nai Mitzvah formal Jewish learning and is planning on continuing their Jewish studies at the collegiate or university level.

Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a graduating high school senior
- Must demonstrate a commitment to lifelong Jewish learning
- Must have participated in post B’nai Mitzvah formal Jewish learning, such as a synagogue Confirmation program, high school Hebrew language classes, or an accredited online Jewish education course
- Must have demonstrated involvement in Jewish learning or education leadership after B’nai Mitzvah
- Must plan to continue Jewish learning during college, such as through an Israel study trip or Jewish Studies coursework
- Must demonstrate a willingness to share Jewish learning experiences with community youth or serve as a mentor or leader in formal or informal Jewish learning during college
Application Process
- Complete a cover sheet with your name, mailing address, email address, cell phone number, current high school, current high school GPA as of the submission date, and the college or university you have been accepted to or plan to attend
- List and briefly describe your post B’nai Mitzvah formal and informal Jewish education experiences; explain the purpose of each educational program and what you gained through your participation or leadership
- List and briefly describe your roles in teaching, leadership, or developing Jewish learning experiences in the community; include the setting, your role, the activities you were responsible for, and the program director or instructor you worked with
- Write a short essay explaining your reasons for participating in formal Jewish education after high school graduation and the personal goals you hope to accomplish through the educational experience
- Obtain a minimum of two recommendation letters from an educator, rabbi, cantor, youth group director, or program director
- Participate in a personal interview with the Scholarship Committee if selected as a final candidate; the interview date and time will be determined by the Committee
In an effort to continue its mission of providing community-based Jewish learning, a scholarship has been created to annually award a graduating high school senior who has been accepted to post-secondary education, to continue and expand their Jewish learning. This scholarship is one of several academic scholarships offered under the auspices of the Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis. Awarding will take place at the beginning of June.
