Scholarship Description

The Iota Sigma Pi Undergraduate Award for Excellence in Chemistry recognizes excellence in chemistry by a woman undergraduate student. The candidate shall be a senior woman chemistry student in an accredited college or university that grants a four year degree. The candidate may be, but need not be, a member of Iota Sigma Pi. Nominations for the award must be made by faculty members of the candidate's current institution. Only one nomination may be submitted by a single department.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nominee must be a senior woman chemistry student
  • Must be enrolled at an accredited four-year college or university
  • Membership in Iota Sigma Pi is not required
  • Only one nomination per department is permitted

Application Process

  1. Faculty member submits a completed nomination dossier as a single electronic file (PDF recommended) by February 15th
  2. Dossier must include:

    • Completed cover sheet with student’s permanent and school addresses
    • Academic history including official or unofficial transcripts from all institutions attended, with GPA
    • Personal statement outlining candidate’s activities and post-graduation plans
  3. Candidate arranges for at least two confidential recommendation letters from faculty to be submitted electronically
  4. Candidate also arranges for official transcripts to be emailedby February 15th
  5. Scholarship winner will be notified by April 15th

The candidate should arrange for confidential letters of recommendation. Nominator should be responsible for collecting and submitting letters of recommendations. They should be sent electronically by the application deadline. A minimum of two recommendations: faculty members who can speak to the candidate’s studies and accomplishments in chemistry.
