The ITE Diversity Scholars Program supports underrepresented students pursuing careers in transportation engineering, planning, or related fields. It is open to both seniors in high school planning to attend college in the fall and Community College students who are transferring to a 4 year college in the fall.
Scholarship Details
- One scholarship awarded annually
- Supports up to five years of undergraduate study in transportation or related fields
- Includes mentoring, internship opportunities, and ITE Student Chapter engagement
- Recipients must maintain good academic standing and progress toward graduation
- Application deadline is March 15th, at 5:00 PM Central Time
- Awardee will be notified by May 1st
Eligibility Criteria
- High school senior or community college student transferring to a 4-year college in the fall
- Of African-American; Native American, Alaskan, and Hawaiian; or Hispanic/Latino heritage
- United States citizen or lawful permanent resident
- Declared or intended major in transportation engineering, planning, or a related field
- Enrollment at an accredited college or university with an ITE Student Chapter
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Preference given to first-generation college students and those from low-income households
- Applicants eligible for Pell Grants will receive priority consideration
Application Process
- Gather personal, parent/guardian, and academic information including annual household income
- Prepare a list of accomplishments, extracurricular, and community service activities (optional)
- Identify the university you plan to attend or list up to three schools where you’ve applied
- Write a 1–2 page personal statement explaining your interest in the scholarship and the transportation field
- Obtain and upload your academic transcript
- Obtain and upload your FAFSA Student Aid Acknowledgement Report
- Secure and upload two letters of recommendation
- Submit your completed application online, by email, or by mail by March 15th at 5:00 PM CT
Graduating high school or community college students who are accepted into the ITE Diversity Scholars Program are eligible to continue in the program, so long as they maintain acceptable progress toward graduation in the field of transportation engineering, planning, or a related field, and fulfill the minimum established standards for GPA (specific criteria listed under eligibility requirements).
