Scholarship Description

The Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans (JCCIA) is proud to offer the Joseph U. Bottalla Scholarship – from the Joseph U. Bottalla Scholarship Fund – awarded to students who are Illinois residents of 50% or more of Italian extraction, have studied Italian language for at least two years or currently enrolled in an Italian language course, either in high school or college, and are admitted to or enrolled at an accredited institute of higher education.

Scholarship Details

  • Supports students admitted to or enrolled at an accredited institution of higher education
  • Applicants are evaluated based on eligibility, application quality, and a 500-word essay about how their Italian heritage has influenced them
  • Recipients will be notified by the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans and are required to attend the organization's December meeting and Christmas party

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be an Illinois resident
  • Must be at least 50% of Italian extraction
  • Must have studied the Italian language for at least two years or be currently enrolled in an Italian language course in high school or college

Application Process

  1. Complete the JCCIA Joseph U. Bottalla Scholarship application
  2. Write a 500-word essay describing how your Italian heritage has influenced you
  3. Gather all required supporting documents, including a current school transcript and documentation of Italian language study and college admission or enrollment
  4. Combine the completed application, essay, transcript, and all required documentation into one PDF file
  5. Submit the complete PDF electronically to the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans by the application deadline

Students selected as award recipients will be notified in a communication from the JCCIA by December 1st and will be required to attend the JCCIA December meeting/Christmas party. All applicants must provide documentation of Italian language study or current enrollment and proof of admission to or enrollment at an accredited institution, such as transcripts or an acceptance letter
