Scholarship Description

The Oregon State Sheriff's Association Scholarship provides an award each year to Oregon students pursuing a career in law enforcement. The scholarship supports students who plan to attend a community college or a four-year college or university.Scholarship funds are paid directly to the recipient's college or university.

Scholarship Details

  • Award amount is $2,000
  • Open to qualified Oregon high school seniors and current college students
  • Students may attend a community college or a four-year college or university
  • Applications must be received by April 1
  • Recipients are notified by May 1
  • Scholarship funds are paid directly to the college or university by August 15
  • Applications are reviewed by the OSSA Scholarship Committee, and finalists may be asked to participate in an interview

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be an Oregon resident
  • Must intend to pursue a degree in a law enforcement field of study
  • Must submit a completed application by the stated deadline

Application Process

  1. Complete the scholarship application form
  2. Write an original essay of no more than three handwritten or typed pages addressing the topic, "What challenges do you see in the field of law enforcement, and what are your views on meeting these challenges?"
  3. Include SAT and/or ACT scores if required by your school, or provide documentation from your school indicating that test scores are not required
  4. Obtain and include your official high school or college transcripts
  5. If you are a high school senior, include a letter of acceptance from a community college or four-year college or university
  6. Combine all required documents into a single PDF file and submit your application by April 1
