The Pride Scholarship was founded in 2000 by Bill Beachler, MSU Alumnus; and GLFSA, the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Faculty, Staff, and Graduate Student Association of Michigan State University.
Scholarship Details
- Award amount varies based on funding and recipient qualifications
- Open to all undergraduate students at Michigan State University
- Preference given to incoming first-year or transfer students
- Managed by the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center in consultation with EPIC
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be enrolled at Michigan State University for the coming academic year
- Must demonstrate a commitment to academic achievement and/or merit
- Must show involvement with or contributions to the LGBTQIA2S+ community
- All undergraduate students are eligible, regardless of major or year
Application Process
- Log in to the MSU scholarship application portal
- Complete the general application and search for the Pride Endowed Scholarship
- Answer supplemental questions including:
- Examples of academic achievement or merit
- Indication of first-year or transfer student status
- Enrollment confirmation for the coming academic year
- Upload a current curriculum vitae or résumé
- Submit a 500–1,000 word essay highlighting your academic journey, personal identity, and contributions to the LGBTQIA2S+ community
- Application deadline is March 10th
This is one of only a handful of such scholarships offered by U.S. universities. In 2000, the scholarship awarded was $500; it has since grown to an award of approximately $20,000+, with further growth expected. The award is given to an MSU undergraduate student selected through a competitive application process.
