Scholarship Description

Grossmont Healthcare District awards TWO scholarships to Registered Nursing (RN) candidates with a demonstrated commitment to community service in the amount of $8,000 (1st place) and $5,250 (2nd place).

Scholarship Details

  • Two scholarships are awarded annually
  • First-place award: $8,000
  • Second-place award: $5,250
  • Supports students enrolled in accredited Registered Nursing (RN) programs

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must have an East County connection by meeting at least one of the following:

    • Current resident within the Grossmont Healthcare District for at least one year
    • Current employee at an organization within the District for at least two years
    • Graduate of a high school located within the District boundaries
  • Must have successfully completed one year in an accredited Registered Nursing program and be currently enrolled
  • Must demonstrate a history of community volunteer service
  • Previous Richard J. Bea Scholarship recipients are not eligible to apply
  • Students enrolled in ADN-to-BSN, diploma-to-BSN, diploma-to-MSN, or nurse practitioner bridge programs are not eligible

Application Process

  1. Complete the online scholarship application during the application period.
  2. Provide documentation verifying your East County eligibility.
  3. Upload a current transcript showing successful completion of one year in an accredited Registered Nursing program and proof of current enrollment.
  4. Provide your faculty advisor's contact information.
  5. Submit documentation of community volunteer service.
  6. Write and submit an original essay of 500 words or fewer describing how community service has influenced your nursing education and how you plan to improve community health as a nurse.
  7. Submit all required application materials before the published deadline.

This award is meant to encourage the development of nurses with a passion for and history of community service. The award is not available to ADN to BSN, diploma to BSN/MSN/NP programs. All of the above must be met or the application will not be eligible for review. Previous recipients of the Richard J. Bea scholarship are not eligible to reapply.
