Brent P. Poor died in a tragic boating accident on July 26, 2010. This scholarship, established by his wife, honors his memory by offering college tuition assistance to children who have lost a parent.
Scholarship Details
- $1,000 awarded per semester for up to eight consecutive semesters
- Maximum total award of $8,000
- Open for applications from October 1 through January 31st
- Supports students attending college full time in Louisiana or Texas
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant must be the child of a widow or widower who has never remarried
- Applicant must be enrolled or planning to enroll as a full time college student in Louisiana or Texas
- Applicant must be able to provide documentation verifying eligibility
Application Process
- Complete and submit the official scholarship application
- Provide an academic transcript from the previous semester
- Submit an academic resume detailing accomplishments and involvement
- Include a FAFSA Student Aid Report showing Expected Family Contribution
- Provide a copy of the parent’s death certificate
- Write a 500 word essay explaining the impact of the parent’s death and challenges overcome
- Submit all documents between October 1st and January 31st
