The intent of the Brian Pearson Memorial Scholarship is to recognize three individuals every year: two outstanding athletes involved with the Iowa Games (one male and one female), and through that process, Brian Pearson.
Scholarship Details
- Awards two scholarships each year to one male and one female student-athlete
- Recognizes excellence in athletics, academics, community involvement, and leadership
- Open to students who have previously participated in Iowa Games events such as the Summer Iowa Games, Winter Iowa Games, Iowa Games Net Fest, Iowa Games NASP and other Iowa Games programs
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a current high school junior or senior
- Must have previously participated in one or more Iowa Games events
- Must submit all required materials
Application Process
- Prepare a separate document that includes your name, gender, address, phone numbers, email, high school, current GPA, and expected graduation year
- List and describe your school, church, club, and community volunteer service, including years of involvement
- Provide a record of your Iowa Games participation, including the years you participated and any awards you received
- List your athletic accomplishments, honors, and awards, along with the years they were earned
- List your academic achievements, honors, and awards
- Write a personal essay of no more than two double-spaced pages describing your educational goals, community involvement, volunteer work, citizenship, role as a positive example, and career aspirations
- Obtain two letters of recommendation, including one from a teacher or coach and one from a community member such as a clergy member, club leader, or volunteer organization representative
The Brian Pearson Memorial Scholarship was created in honor of former Iowa State University basketball player Brian Pearson, who died of brain cancer in the fall of 1997. The Iowa Games began awarding the Brian Pearson Memorial Scholarship in 1998.
