Scholarship Description

The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) invites all high school students (9th through 12th grades) interested in the American Revolution to participate in the George S. & Stella M. Knight Essay Contest. To participate, students must submit an original 800- to 1,200-word essay based on an event, person, philosophy or ideal associated with the American Revolution, Declaration of Independence, or the framing of the United States Constitution.

Scholarship Details

  • Open to high school students in grades 9–12
  • Essay length: 800–1,200 words
  • Essay must focus on an event, person, philosophy, or ideal linked to the American Revolution, Declaration of Independence, or the Constitution

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to U.S. citizens and legal residents
  • Applicants must attend a public, private, parochial, or home school in the United States
  • Students must be in grades 9–12 at the time of application

Application Process

  1. Research and write an original 800–1,200 word essay on an approved topic
  2. Submit essay to the local SAR chapter (check with your local SAR member for deadlines and submission details)
  3. Essays advancing past the local level will proceed to state and national competitions

The contest is open to all US Citizen and Legal Resident students attending home schools, public, parochial, or private high schools in that same grade range.
