Dedicated to continuing Pedro Zamora’s legacy, the Pedro Zamora Young Leaders Scholarship is a $5,000 award that supports the school costs of young activists and non-profit changemakers who work in their communities, and who carry Pedro’s torch forward in the struggles for social and health justice.
Scholarship Details
- Provides a $5,000 scholarship award in honor of Pedro Zamora’s legacy
- Offered by the National AIDS Memorial to support young activists and community leaders
- Recognizes work advancing equity, health justice, and social justice
- Supports students committed to addressing stigma, discrimination, and systemic inequality
- Since 2009, more than $825,000 has been awarded to over 200 scholars
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a current or incoming undergraduate student enrolled in a U.S. community college or four-year university
- Must be age 27 or younger
- Must study or reside in the United States
- Must provide proof of acceptance or current enrollment
- Must demonstrate an active commitment to community justice work, leadership, or public service
- Academic, extracurricular, or career goals must align with advancing equity and social justice or the fight against HIV/AIDS
Application Process
- Confirm that you meet the age, enrollment, and activism eligibility requirements
- Prepare and submit a short video of no more than five minutes introducing yourself and your motivations
- Use your video to speak authentically about your journey, leadership, and commitment to justice work
- Provide required personal and educational information, including proof of enrollment or acceptance
- Submit all application materials by June 30th for full consideration
