The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions sponsors a scholarship program for health professions students enrolled in its member schools. The purpose of the scholarship program is to recognize outstanding students in the health professions who are achieving excellence in their academic programs and have significant potential to assume future leadership roles in health professions.
Scholarship Details
- Seven $1,000 scholarships are expected to be awarded
- One Scholarship of Excellence recipient will be selected as the Elwood Scholar and receive an additional $1,000
- The program recognizes academic excellence and potential for future leadership in the health professions
- Financial need is not considered when determining eligibility
- Each eligible ASAHP member institution may nominate one candidate
- The nomination deadline is June 5th
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be enrolled at a college or school that is an institutional member of the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions
- Must have successfully completed at least one academic term at the nominating institution
- Must be enrolled in a career entry-level, degree-granting health professions program
- Students pursuing associate, bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degrees may be eligible
- Students in nursing, public health, psychology, medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, podiatry, and pharmacy are not eligible
- Must be selected as the institution's nominee for the scholarship
Application Process
- Confirm that your college or school is an institutional member of ASAHP and that your academic program meets the eligibility requirements.
- Be selected by your institution as its Scholarship of Excellence nominee.
- Prepare a current resume or CV.
- Write a typewritten essay of no more than 200 words explaining why you selected your health profession and the unique contributions you intend to make to the health of your community.
- Obtain a nomination letter endorsed by the ASAHP Institutional Representative that supports your nomination and describes your qualifications.
- Have the complete nomination packet submitted through the online nomination form by June 5th at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.
Letters to the winners will be sent under the signatures of ASAHP’s President and the Executive Director to the institutional representative after the recipients are recognized on the ASAHP UPDATE. The scholarship check and a certificate will be included with that letter. The institutional representative is responsible for assuring that the winning student receives the check. Institutions are encouraged to use the award to honor the student publicly.
