The Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania (ASWP) awards the Beulah Frey Environmental Scholarship to a graduating high school senior from their service area of Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, Beaver, Fayette, Washington, and Westmoreland counties. Students who are applying to two or four-year colleges to further their studies in an environmentally-related field are eligible to apply. Applications are available beginning in January from the ASWP website or through applicants' school's guidance office.
Besides completing the application, applicants must also submit: a resume; a personal statement (500-words maximum); an essay (500-1,000 words, identifying a critical environmental issue and explain how their course of study and career goals intersect with that issue); official transcripts; and a letter of recommendation (from a person with whom the applicant has interacted in environmentally-related activities, and/or courses, and who can speak to the applicant’s initiative, dedication, and achievements). Scholarship recipients and their high school guidance counselors will be notified in June.
