Scholarship Description

Since 2001 a major focus of SWE-LV has been to distribute scholarships for high school senior women who intend to major in engineering at their respective college or university. Scholarship funds are provided by area businesses and all of the work for administration of the program is provided by SWE volunteers. Evaluation is based on academic achievement, extracurricular and leadership activities, an evaluation form, and an original essay. A one-time award of up to $4,000 can be granted to the successful applicants.

Scholarship Details

  • A one-time award of up to $5,000 will be granted.
  • Scholarship funds are provided by area businesses and administered by SWE volunteers.
  • Evaluation criteria include academic achievement, extracurricular and leadership activities.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must reside in Pennsylvania zip codes beginning with 177-187 and 195-196 (over 20 counties).
  • Must be enrolling as a first-year student in an ABET-accredited engineering program in the year the scholarship is awarded.
  • Must identify as a woman and be graduating from high school in the year the scholarship is awarded.

ABET Accredited Engineering Majors

Recipients must be attending a college or university that is ABET-accredited in one of the following engineering majors:

  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Agricultural Engineering
  • Architectural Engineering
  • Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering
  • Biological Engineering
  • Chemical, Biochemical, Biomolecular Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Construction Engineering
  • Cybersecurity Engineering
  • Electrical, Computer, Communications, and Telecommunications Engineering
  • General Engineering, Engineering Physics, and Engineering Science
  • Engineering Management
  • Engineering Mechanics
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Fire Protection Engineering
  • Geological Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Materials, Metallurgical, and Ceramics Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mining Engineering
  • Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering
  • Nuclear and Radiological Engineering

Application Process

  1. Verify eligibility by confirming your residence in eligible zip codes and verifying your intended major is ABET-accredited.
  2. Complete the scholarship application, including the evaluation form and an original essay.
  3. Submit the application and all supporting documents by the specified deadline.
