I am a Lesbian in my freshman year of highschool. I have planned my future very precisely since I was in elementary school and I now can see how many obstacles are interfering with my plans. Being gay has definitely set some obstacles for me and I know that earning this scholarship can help me very much.

As a 58 year old gay man, I have been an activist for GLBTQ interests for more 37 years in four states, occasionally in leadership roles. Presently, I am about to enter my seventh year as a half-time student at Santa Barbara City College where I am working on an Associates Degree in Graphic Design and Photography. SBCC does not offer a 4 year Bachelor Degree, so I am searching for an affordable fully online college to continue my studies while continuing to work full time as a paralegal for a Bay Area law firm I have been with for 11 1/2 years although I have been a paralegal for more than 26 years. During my legal career, I have been fortunate to represent many people across all spectrums in criminal and civil matters. I hope to utilize my skills in starting a graphic design business that will serve people of wide diversity and emphasize some social messages such as the fight against systemic bigotry.

I applied for this scholarship because I feel like as much as I have been bullied for being a lesbian that I deserve the money to get a better education

I am a lesbian at a christian university. I get very anxious at this fact and it makes college life very hard so far. I have been struggling to be able to pay my tuition due to breaking my foot the first week of classes, therefore I have been unable to work. I am applying to this scholarship because it would really help me succeed into my future and I would be very grateful. As I also grew up in a foster home as LGBT youth, this was distressful for my younger self.At the age of nine getting put into something I had never been through before was very hard, this was a struggle and a triumph that not only I had to go through but my siblings alike. Going through this and looking back almost nine years later it means a great deal to me what my grandmother and grandfather did for my siblings and I. Sadly a year after being placed with my grandparents and grandpa had passed away, during this time our family was very helpful and there for us in a way I can’t fully grasp to completely explain, this was again knowing that I have more people there for me. Already being in a new atmosphere things were changing so fast before I could even notice it. Many more things just kept happening in my life, I had an aunt pass away, my great grandfather as well as a few years later my great grandmother. Those were very hard ones to come to terms with, I’ve always been very close with her while being named after her with my middle name. A few years later I also had an uncle pass away, then my own father. This one in all honesty I still have not come to terms with. Already being out of the home of my fathers made this death very different from the others. I love my father dearly and I miss him to this day and I always will, he always wanted me to go far and life and wanted the best for me. I want to make him proud, I want to know that one day I fulfilled his wishes and became the person he had always wanted me to be. I feel that college in particular was always what he wanted my next step to

I am a Lesbian Woman, age of 19, I have all my life hidden that secret from family because my family was homophobic, especially my mother, until I had came out, they accepted me for who I am, the first time I tried to come out, they were not happy at all, but once I became older, they accepted me, I help others who struggle with coming out, and especially my friends who are too afraid to, I applied for this schedule because I have financial problems right now, my school is making me pay $1000+ each month, and it's hard, I'd love this scholarship, and I'd be the happiest, to know I'll be able to continue my education, I'm from Palatine, IL and thank you so much.

As the years rapidly go by change is expected. Compassion and love seem to dwindle as well as caring for one another. I am applying for this scholarship because gender equality is one of if not the most important equality we as a people can have. It is just as equal as human rights and civil rights. No person should be discriminated on, hated on, or persecuted because of their gender identity, choice, or given birth whether gay, intersex, trans, bisexual, binary or non binary alike. As a current corrections nurse (LPN) I strive my hardest to ensure equality to the many "lost" LGBTQ whose lives still matter. Especially in the prison systems. Many are ashamed or embarrassed and hide their true identity in fear of inequality. I hope to make a change with that. I work closely with corrections officers and members of PREA (prison rape elimination act) daily to ensure there is no mistreatment of our LGBTQ prisoners and any inmates who happen to come to jail. That they are housed fairly and that they are not mistreated and are safe. I believe in equality for every human being and as I attempt to transition for my RN hope to one day come up with a bill to further help LGBTQ not just in prison and corrections systems but also juveniles struggling to identify and the concerns they may have while incarcerated.

I am applying for this scholarship, as gender equality and sexual orientations are really important to me. My siblings both identify as non-binary and people have made fun of them all their lives. This was a major hardship on me growing up because I was taught to love and accept everyone. Me, being the over protecter that I am, would always tell our parents or the school principle/teacher. I was made fun of, for my siblings. I attended the LGBTQ+ parade and march, I want to show everyone that its okay to be who you are and to not care what others will think of you! you are special, you are worth it.
