The Charles W. Riley Firefighter and Ambulance and Rescue Squad Member Scholarship Program encourages members of the fire-fighting, ambulance, and rescue organizations serving Maryland communities to pursue credited courses that lead to a degree in fire service technology, emergency medical technology, fire service management, or public safety administration with a minor or concentration in fire service technology or fire service management. This is renewable upon a 2.5 GPA.
Scholarship Details
- Intended for active firefighters, ambulance, or rescue squad members in Maryland.
- Focuses on degrees related to fire service technology, emergency medical technology, fire service management, or public safety administration.
- Awards cover at least 50% of annual tuition and mandatory fees, up to the cost of a resident undergraduate at a 4-year public institution within the University System of Maryland.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be actively engaged as a career or volunteer member of fire, ambulance, or rescue squads.
- Should be enrolled in credited courses leading to a degree in specified fields.
- Achieved a minimum of 50 LOSAP points or worked a minimum of 1,000 hours in the year prior to the award.
Application Process
- Complete the scholarship application via the Maryland College Aid Processing System (MDCAPS).
- Submit proof of acceptance into an eligible degree program and a notarized statement confirming active service.
- Ensure all applications and required documents are submitted by May 1.
Eligible applicants who are renewals will be given priority over initial applicants. Within these groups, applicants will be ranked and awarded according to the submission date of their completed online application form.
