  • Scholarship Description
  • The Wives Behind the Badge Law Enforcement Children's Scholarship is offered every year to the dependent children of law enforcement officers. Scholarships are awarded based on the scholastic achievement, character, and community service of the applicant.

    Scholarship Eligibility:
    -Applicant must be the dependent child (natural or adopted) of a local, state, or federal law enforcement officer (full-time active service, retired, or deceased). Children of reserve officers or military police are not eligible
    -Applicant must be a current high school senior or currently attending a community college or 4-year university
    -Applicant must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.3 or higher (based on a 4.0 system)
    -Applicant must be a citizen of the United States
    -Applicant must be active in the community through volunteer work and community service projects
    -Wives Behind the Badge will award scholarships on an annual basis. Scholarships will only be awarded once to each recipient. Awardees will not be eligible for any additional scholarships/renewals
    -Applications and scholarships will not be judged based on sex, creed, national origin, or religious preference
    -Scholarships are to be awarded (certificate only) in the first week of May. Scholarships will be paid directly to the approved educational institution. WBTB funds, if awarded, cannot be applied to a semester completed in part or whole retroactively

Harvard Supporters Back University in Admissions Trial

Harvard students and alumni will testify in support of Harvard during the admissions trial this week, defending its "race-conscious admissions policy" against claims that it discriminates against Asian-American applicants. The trial is the latest chapter in a lawsuit filed in 2014 by Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA).

Harvard University has been accused of "balancing its undergraduate classes to ensure that it had admitted its desired share of students of each race and ethnicity" and also for penalizing Asian-American applicants by "systematically giving them lower scores on a metric admissions officers use to measure personality." Adam Mortara, a lawyer representing SFFA, stated that the university scores applicants in four categories: academic achievement, athletic ability, extracurriculars, and personality. While referencing admissions data, he concluded that, despite their higher academic performance, Asian-Americans are admitted at lower rates. [...]
