  • Scholarship Description
  • The Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH) is offering graduate scholarships for students seeking academic degrees that underpin disaster safety and mitigation, including construction, engineering, financial services, risk communication, social sciences and so on. The Kohler Generators is available to master and doctorate degree students performing research on any of the following topics as they relate mitigating the effects of, responding to or recovery from natural disasters:

    -The role of backup power in mitigation of cascading damages following utility power loss
    -The role of backup power in determining a structure's resilience
    -Cost/risk mitigation analysis of backup power
    -Mechanical or electrical engineering research into design of backup power for homes
    -Mechanical or electrical engineering research into installation of backup power for homes

    Eligibility:
    -Must possess a bachelor's degree from a higher education institution which is accredited by the responsible regional or national agency
    -Must be accepted for graduate study at a college or university at the time of acceptance
    -The proposed faculty member who will direct the applicant's graduate study must complete and return an appraisal of the student's capabilities

    Attendance at the FLASH annual conference for in-person presentation of the research in poster or presentation format is required as part of the scholarship award criteria. For other details and to apply, please visit the scholarship provider's website.
