  • Scholarship Description
  • The National Capital Texas A&M Club's Scholarship Fund exists to support the education goals of current and prospective Texas A&M University students. Scholarships are awarded based on applicant's character, leadership potential, quality of application and grade point average. The amount of the scholarship award and number of scholarships will be determined based on the quality of applicants. The announcement of the scholarship award will be made annually at the club barbecue typically held during the month of August. The winner of the scholarship will be notified by telephone in advance of the barbecue and invited to attend as a guest of the club.

    Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:
    -Applicants must be a resident of the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area/National Capital Region
    -Applicants must be a current student or have been accepted for studies in graduate/undergraduate course work at Texas A&M University at the College Station or Galveston campuses
    -Previous recipients of the National Capital Texas A&M Club Scholarship may reapply
    -The award of the scholarship is contingent upon acceptance and enrollment at Texas A&M University or proof of good academic standing with the University

    Remember this scholarship opportunity is not limited to the children of former students; any student from this area attending A&M is eligible.

    Applications should NOT be sent via Federal Express or certified mail, as club officers are not available to sign for deliveries or to accept certified letters. Applications sent in a manner other than by first class are at risk of not being considered. If you would like the club to confirm receipt of your application, please include an email address on your application and specify you would like confirmation.

    The National Capital Texas A&M Club shall award the scholarship on the basis of:
    - The applicant’s character, leadership potential, quality of application, financial need and grade point average.
    - Three letters of recommendation must be included in the application packet. At least two recommendations must be from a principal, guidance counselor, clergy, university adviser, teacher or professor.
    - A final interview with the Scholarship Committee (If deem required by the Committee).

    Scholarship Committee
    The Scholarship Committee consists of five active members of the club to include officers and board members. Each packet is reviewed and ranked on criteria as stated in the above information. The decision of the Scholarship Committee is final.

"OK to Be White" Signs a "Sign of the Times"?

"It's okay to be white" signs were scattered on college campuses across the country, as well as in Canada over the past week. Reportedly, the signs were first suggested on an online chat forum called 4chan, calling on people to place posters in their area on Halloween night. At Harvard Law School, at least 20 handmade stickers with the message "It's ok to be white" were posted on light poles and electrical boxes. Harvard Law's Dean of Students Marcia Sells condemned the posters, stating the posters and stickers are "intended to divide us from one another" and that "HLS will not let that happen here." The Department of Public Works removed the stickers shortly thereafter. Even after they had been removed, the message continued to circulate via social media through hashtags and videos, gaining both condemnation and support. [...]
