  • Scholarship Description
  • A qualified medical student will be awarded a $2,500 scholarship.

    Eligibility:
    -Applicant must be a United States citizen
    -Applicant must be a resident of Lehigh County in the state of Pennsylvania
    -Applicant must be a Pennsylvania resident from Lehigh County for at least 12 months prior to registering as a medical student (not including time spent attending an under graduate or graduate school)
    -Applicant must be enrolled full-time in an accredited United States medical school

    Submission materials:
    -A completed scholarship application form
    -Two reference letters, from persons other than family members, documenting the applicant's integrity, interpersonal skills, and potential as a future physician (Note: One reference letter must be from either a medical school professor or a physician)
    -A letter, on school letterhead, from the applicant's medical school verifying that he/she is enrolled full time as a medical student at that institution
    -A typed one-page essay addressing your goals and expectations in medicine

Harvard Supporters Back University in Admissions Trial

Harvard students and alumni will testify in support of Harvard during the admissions trial this week, defending its "race-conscious admissions policy" against claims that it discriminates against Asian-American applicants. The trial is the latest chapter in a lawsuit filed in 2014 by Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA).

Harvard University has been accused of "balancing its undergraduate classes to ensure that it had admitted its desired share of students of each race and ethnicity" and also for penalizing Asian-American applicants by "systematically giving them lower scores on a metric admissions officers use to measure personality." Adam Mortara, a lawyer representing SFFA, stated that the university scores applicants in four categories: academic achievement, athletic ability, extracurriculars, and personality. While referencing admissions data, he concluded that, despite their higher academic performance, Asian-Americans are admitted at lower rates. [...]
