  • Scholarship Description
  • The Trina M. Batchelor Memorial Scholarship was established by Stephen P. Batchelor in 2013 in memory of Trina M. Batchelor to provide scholarships to graduating high school seniors who attend a Forsyth County high school and reside in the Foundation's service area. The scholarship may provide a non-renewable award for students who will pursue full-time
    undergraduate degrees from accredited vocational/technical school, community college, or college/university in pursuit of a certificate, diploma or degree. Scholarships will be applied to the cost of undergraduate tuition, fees, room and board, and other college expenses.

    To receive consideration, applicants must:
    -Attend a Forsyth County high school and reside in The Winston-Salem Foundation's service area
    -Be graduating high school seniors
    -Have a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0
    -Demonstrate financial need, but not restricted to lower incomes (student's financial need and merit will be equally weighted)

A professor at the University of California at Santa Cruz believed she was "unstalkable" up until a student of hers began sending messages that were at first flirtatious and ultimately turned to threats of rape and murder. Much of the #MeToo conversation in higher education revolves around educators who "harass" or "target" students; but some educators themselves actually become vulnerable to harassment by their own students and remain silent out of a sense of guilt, embarrassment, and often the fear of losing their jobs.
