  • Founded in 1903, the American Political Science Association (APSA) is the leading professional organization for the study of political science and serves more than 11,000 members in more than 100 countries. With a range of programs and services for individuals, departments, and institutions, APSA brings together political scientists from all fields of inquiry, regions, and occupational endeavors within and outside academe to deepen our understanding of politics, democracy, and citizenship throughout the world.

    The APSA Diversity Fellowship Program is a fellowship competition for individuals from underrepresented backgrounds applying to or in the early stages of doctoral programs in political science. Eligible applicants must: be a racial minority; be a US citizen, US national, US permanent resident (holder of a Permanent Resident Card), or an individual granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA) at the time of application; and demonstrate an interest in teaching and potential for research in political science. Deadlines vary, depending on when you are applying for.

Attention : Scholarship Judge, My name is Janeney Asugar and I'm applying for this scholarship so I could pay for my college expenses at the Eastern Idaho Technical College and have a better future. I was born in Guam and my father took me to the Pacific Islands of Pohnpei, Micronesia, due to his marriage complications. I was raised there by my grandparents with no source of income and a lot of individuals who are not ambitious. In my family of 4 we live on less than $2 a day slightly more depending on the harvest that we would make as farmers. Being raised in poverty has motivated me to a lifetime of being a hard worker. My goal is to become an Anesthesiologist to help people in the U.S; not only to be one that helps, but also one that cares. Also, for my island and family, I'd like to stand out and make a difference for better dreams, ambitions, and goals for those who may be dedicated to be different than the rest to help our country overcome poverty. Thank you !

I am applying for this scholarship because I am currently a senior at Tornillo High School in Tornillo, T.X. I am currently taking classes in Western Technical College for Medical Assistant. For me right now taking college classes means a lot to my parents because they are always telling me that they want the best for me because my mom has her DACA and if they take that away from her she won't be able to work and won't be able to provide for our family and well my dad works in the construction and when he gets home he is tired but he still goes outside to work on our house since he was the one who built our house so he likes going outside to make some changes. They always come home with a smile on their faces no matter if their day was bad and they act like everything is okay. It would be an honor to win a scholarship because I want to continue my studies and give everything to my parents as they deserve and as they have done it with me.

I am a 15-year old sophomore who is planning to attend the University of Minnesota after HighSchool. I intend to major in Public health or Principal of Biomedical Science (PBS), and later attend the Kent State University of Pediatric Medicine as a med-student. I would like to receive this scholarship because I know that I won't be able to pay off all the tuition needed for the schools of my dream, and I don't want that to hold me back; surprisingly, I don't come from a family with wealth. My mom came to America with eight of my siblings to have a better life and leave a harmful environment. I am determined and willing to work as hard as possible to make my dreams a reality and help people on the way. I am currently in the Health Science Academy in my school and planning to join a Medical club during November. I have tried to participate in more actives and sports, but Covid has been a bit tricky to do so. I applied for this scholarship because I am currently a senior at Delano High School in Delano, CA. I am currently a health academy student and am studying to be a Medical Assistant student. For me being a part of this role rightnow as a highschool student means everything to my parents because they are immigrants and they left a family behind to bring there own family to the U.S and give us the most that they can. The past 25 years that they have been here consists of working in the grape vines all year round. As a daughter of immigrant parents it hurts to see your parents coming home exhausted and seeing how they struggle to pay things like bills and to simply buy things for us to eat. I have had to experience working in the fields for maybe 4 years now and it breaks my heart to see how they work and still manage to keep a smile on there faces, they come home with pain and act like nothings wrong. It would be a honor to win a scholarship so I could be able to go to college and give my parents the life they deserve and be a form of inspiration for my siblings.
