Great Minds in STEM (GMiS) is pleased to announce the GMiS California Health Sciences Scholarships, which provide financial assistance and support for underrepresented students in California, pursuing undergraduate degrees in health-related disciplines.
Scholarship Details
- One-time $1,000 scholarship award
- Supports underrepresented students in California
- Preference for students focusing on mental health, rehabilitative or geriatric medicine, or services for individuals with disabilities
- Offered annually
Eligibility Criteria
- Member of a traditionally underrepresented group in the health sciences
- Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Must be pursuing a health-related undergraduate degree from an accredited U.S. or Puerto Rican institution
- U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, or DACA recipient
- Additional preference given to students pursuing mental health, rehabilitative, geriatric specialties, or supporting individuals with disabilities
Application Process
- Visit the GMiS website and access the GMiS Scholarship application
- Complete the online application form thoroughly and accurately
- Upload all required supporting documents (e.g., transcripts, personal statement, letters of recommendation)
- Submit your application by the April 30 deadline
GMiS awards these scholarships in honor of Dr. Alfonso Paredes, founder and President of Casa La Merced and Casa Paredes, which served the mental health, childcare, and housing needs of the underprivileged community in East Los Angeles.
