Scholarship Description

The 4-H Youth in Action program highlights the diverse stories and leadership of 4-H youth who make meaningful contributions to their communities. Each year, selected youth participate in a year-long experience filled with media training, professional development, and national opportunities to serve as ambassadors for the positive impact of 4-H. Participants showcase how 4-H transformed their lives while helping them lead and inspire others.

Scholarship Details

  • Four award winners receive a $5,000 scholarship for higher education, applicable to two-year or four-year colleges, trade schools, or other advanced learning institutions
  • A year of professional and media development, including national opportunities to serve as a spokesperson in their program area
  • All-expenses-paid trips for award winners and a chaperone to attend events as national youth representatives
  • An official reference letter from a National 4-H Council leader for educational or career advancement
  • All applicants receive media, interview, and storytelling training from National 4-H professionals
  • Applicants gain admission to the national 4-H story database, which may lead to multi-media and spokesperson opportunities

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be aged 14-19 at the time of application
  • Applicants should be current or active 4-H members with demonstrated leadership and community impact
  • Open to U.S.-based 4-H participants who are pursuing higher education or advanced learning opportunities
  • A strong personal story of 4-H impact and community involvement is encouraged

Application Process

  1. Visit the official 4-H Youth in Action program webpage to access the application portal
  2. Attend the info session on February 26 from 7:00-8:00 pm ET to learn tips for becoming a competitive applicant
  3. Complete the online application, which includes providing information about your 4-H experience and personal impact story
  4. Submit any required supplemental materials, such as personal essays or reference letters
  5. Ensure the application is submitted before the designated deadline
  6. Await notification of selection and further instructions for participation
